Italian Towns Offering Financial Incentives to New Residents
Several Italian municipalities are offering financial incentives to attract new residents, combat depopulation, and revitalize their communities. Here's an overview of the opportunities available:
1. Candela, Southern Italy
Located two hours from Naples, Candela offers financial incentives for expats: €800 for individuals and €2,000 for families.
Requirements:
- Move permanently to Candela.
- Secure a job in the area.
- Invest in a house built before 1991, which applies to about a third of the properties in the town.
2. Sardinia
Sardinia's government has allocated €45 million to encourage people to move to its countryside. Participants can receive up to €15,000 to renovate a house.
Requirements:
- Relocate to a town with fewer than 3,000 residents.
- Live in the area continuously for at least 18 months.
- Work full-time during this period.
3. Sicily (€1 Houses)
Sicily offers houses for sale at just €1, provided buyers commit to renovating the property within three years.
Requirements:
- Undertake repairs costing at least €15,000.
- Pay a refundable deposit of €5,000.
4. Tuscany: Residence in the Mountains
Tuscany has launched the "Residence in the Mountains 2024" program, targeting 76 small villages. Grants ranging from €10,000 to €30,000 are available to help with the purchase and renovation of real estate.
Requirements:
- The property must become the applicant's primary residence.
- Grants cover up to 50% of housing costs.
- Applicants can choose from towns with populations under 5,000.
Note: As of August 2024, the programs in Sicily and Tuscany have reached their participant limits, and applications are temporarily closed.
These initiatives highlight Italy's efforts to address population decline and breathe new life into its picturesque towns and countryside.
