No Price Hike for French Visas in Algeria, Confirms General Consul
The French Consul General in Algiers, Bruno Clerc, has confirmed that there will be no increase in the standard visa fees for Algerians applying to travel to France, despite a recent change in the visa processing agency. This clarification comes amid confusion following the handover of visa processing services from VFS Global to Capago International.
Capago International officially took over operations on April 8 and will now be handling all French visa applications in Algeria. Concerns had been raised about potential fee increases, but the Consul assured that the visa application costs will remain unchanged for standard French Schengen visas.
While there may be a revised pricing structure introduced by Capago based on additional services it may offer, this does not translate to a general price hike. The full list of service options and associated fees is expected to be published soon.
Capago is also anticipated to manage a greater volume of applications, especially from Algiers, which alone processes between 100 and 1,200 visa applications daily. In 2023, around 279,000 visa applications were submitted by Algerians, with more than half (152,411) coming from the French consulate in Algiers.
Visa approvals for Algerian nationals rose by 20% in 2024, although France still denied over 56% of all Schengen visa applications from Algerian citizens in 2023, the highest rejection rate for any nationality.
As of 2025, the cost for a French Schengen visa remains €90 for adults and €45 for children aged 6 to 11. Children under six are exempt. Applicants must also pay a €29 non-refundable service fee, regardless of the outcome of the application. This fee must be paid within 72 hours of booking an appointment, or the slot will be cancelled and made available to others.
