Portuguese Government’s “Programa Integrar” to Support Migrants in Employment and Training
The Portuguese government has introduced "Programa Integrar," a new initiative aimed at supporting migrants enrolled in the National Institute of Employment and Vocational Training (IEFP). This program is designed to assist unemployed individuals, those seeking their first job, and migrants looking to change their profession or access vocational training.
Programa Integrar offers a variety of services, including vocational training, support for skills recognition, and job search assistance. By addressing cultural barriers and enhancing participants' social and professional skills, the program seeks to improve employment opportunities through active employment measures.
Recognizing the need to integrate the immigrant population, especially in light of Portugal’s ageing workforce and shortages in several strategic sectors, the program takes a tailored approach. Each participant will undergo an individual assessment with the IEFP, focusing on their profile, needs, and expectations. This process will help create customized employment and training plans, including Portuguese language courses if needed.
Participants' existing qualifications will also be evaluated, ensuring that they are guided through the appropriate processes for equivalence or recognition, facilitating their entry into the workforce in roles that match their skills and experience.
