The Safest Cities in Europe
A recent study has highlighted some of the safest cities in Europe, with Copenhagen, Oviedo, and Ljubljana emerging as top contenders where 87% of residents report feeling secure in their surroundings. The findings also reveal a broader trend: smaller cities tend to be perceived as safer compared to larger urban centers.
In cities with populations under 250,000, approximately nine out of ten residents express confidence in their safety. This percentage decreases slightly to 75% for cities of up to one million people. For cities with populations exceeding one million, only 67% of residents feel safe, underscoring the need for effective security measures and policies in larger metropolitan areas.
Here are the top-ranked cities:
1. Copenhagen, Denmark – 87% of residents feel safe walking the streets at night.
2. Oviedo, Spain – 87% of residents share the same sense of safety.
3. Ljubljana, Slovenia – Also at 87%, making it a leader in urban safety.
4. Białystok, Poland – Close behind, with 86% of residents feeling secure.
5. Groningen, Netherlands – Matches Białystok with an 86% safety rating.
6. Zurich, Switzerland – Another city where 86% of residents report high levels of safety.
These findings highlight the importance of urban planning, community engagement, and robust security measures to enhance the quality of life for residents in cities of all sizes.
