In 2024, Turkish nationals were among the most active applicants for Schengen visas, with over 1.1 million requests filed across European embassies. According to data published by SchengenVisaInfo, citizens of Turkiye were the second-largest group of Schengen visa applicants, following Chinese nationals, whose applications exceeded 1.7 million.
Germany and Greece Lead in Visa Requests
Greece and Germany remained top destinations for Turkish travelers, both in terms of applications and approvals. Out of the total 1.1 million applications from Turkiye:
- Greece received 296,377 applications (25.24%), issuing 264,312 visas.
- Germany followed with 215,506 applications (18.36%), approving 170,260.
- France handled 151,640 applications (12.92%) and issued 129,947 visas.
- Italy received 117,432 applications (10%) with 106,193 approvals.
- The Netherlands saw 97,006 requests (8.26%) and issued 84,240 visas.
These five countries alone accounted for approximately 75% of all Schengen visa applications submitted by Turkish nationals in 2024.
Romania Most Likely to Approve, Denmark Most Likely to Reject
While Greece and Germany led in volume, other nations stood out for their approval rates. Romanian authorities were the most favorable, approving 95.51% of Turkish applications:
- Romania: 14,764 approvals out of 15,458 applications.
- Slovakia: 2,744 out of 2,941 (93.3%).
- Portugal: 1,975 out of 2,163 (91.3%).
On the other end of the spectrum, some countries had notably high rejection rates for Turkish applicants:
- Denmark rejected 3,664 of 10,561 applications — a 35% rejection rate.
- Lithuania: 31.5% rejection rate (960 out of 3,044).
- Estonia: 29.9% (600 out of 2,006).
- Sweden: 29.86% (5,422 out of 18,160).
